NEW!: Trees for Wildlife Event Planning Guide 01 of 10 Visit Construction Sites cunfek / Getty Images Keep an eye out for construction sites with plants that are worth saving that you can transplant: mature shrubs, native species, and perennials are likely suspects.Over the last decade, the National Wildlife Federation and its partners have brought communities together to plant and care for more than 500,000 native trees which provide community benefits, connect children with nature, and create wildlife habitat. ![]() Partners include National Wildlife Federation affiliates, Eco-Schools USA, Schoolyard Habitats®, and Community Wildlife Habitat ™program participants. National Wildlife Federation partners must have a plan to care for the trees after planting. Tree giveaway events typically involve distributing seedlings to individuals (often students) that will plant the trees and care for them at home. The National Wildlife Federation provides reimbursement for free or subsidized native tree seedlings to partners who in turn plant them through local restoration projects or community tree giveaway events.
